Last Friday was all about holiday magic! Our K–4th grade bilingual students from Truman School took a special trip to the Bridgeport Cabaret to see the Santa Show, and the energy was incredible!
The students had a blast experiencing the music, the lights, and the joy of live theater. It was a wonderful day of community and festive fun for our young learners!
A HUGE thank you to the New Haven Public Schools Multilingual Department! They fully supported and funded this trip, making it possible for our Truman students to enjoy this amazing experience. We are so grateful for their ongoing commitment to our bilingual programs and our families!

In Ms. Nabakooza’s class, many students crafted beautiful pop-up tree cards, but this particular piece added a unique layer of "pop-up" creativity!

While the original design features a 3D tree, the artist included a hidden surprise: underneath the red paper flap, the student wrote "Feliz Navidad." It’s a wonderful example of a student taking a shared classroom project and adding their own interactive, personal flair.

Mrs. Rosa’s Kindergarteners had the best time this week! They turned their classroom into a total gingerbread construction zone.

It was so sweet to see them teaming up with their families to get the job done. Between the mountains of frosting and the "test-tasting" of the gumdrops, there was so much laughter and creativity in the air!

Our 7th Grade artists have been exploring the fascinating world of comets and the art element of Value (the lightness and darkness of a color).

Did you know that comets are often called 'dirty snowballs,' made of ice, dust, and rocks? Drawing inspiration from this, the students used variations in value to create the illusion of light, depth, and the icy, dusty tails trailing across space!

Mrs. Dillon, our Math Coach, is promoting a fun challenge to help students master math fluency facts and mental calculations using i-Ready.

When students earn 4 Dragons on their i-Ready lessons, they receive a Tiger Ticket and a prize (like stickers or mini dragons).

Special kudos to 4th Grade—they are collectively building a massive Dragon City to celebrate their progress!

Math in Action in 7th grade
Seventh graders are working hard on Math in Action. They are using positive and negative integers. What will they need to go cave exploring and will they have enough money in the budget for all the things they need?  They are practicing their collaboration skill and working together in groups on vertical surfaces following the Building Thinking Classrooms protocol to enhance learning.

The first graders in Mrs. Marchitto's room have finished their incredible research project on animals!

They researched animals and wrote their own non-fiction books. The best part? They put their artistic skills to work by creating detailed dioramas demonstrating the animal's habitat.

Huge milestone reached in Mrs. Perez-Estrada's room!

Students completed their first argumentative essay debating: Are selfies a good or bad way to express yourself? They worked hard to build claims, find evidence, and structure their arguments.

Amazing job on a challenging first essay!

Take a look at the festive holiday trees created by our first graders at Mrs Nabakooza's Art room!

This project emphasized key skills:

Line Focus: Students explored various line types in their designs.

Fine Motor Practice: They practiced crucial skills like precise cutting, neat folding, and proper gluing.

They have also been exploring the wonderful world of line types (straight, curved, zig-zag) and how to use them to create texture and design.
