Check out the amazing work from two rockstar 3rd graders in Ms. Brown’s class! 🤩

They recently hit up the YUAG (Yale University Art Gallery) and got totally inspired by Joseph Stella’s wild painting, Battle of Lights, Coney Island, Mardi Gras!

They brought that same electric color and dynamic movement back to the classroom, creating their own awesome versions. They definitely won the "Battle of Lights" with these renditions!

Way to go, artists!

Our K-2 artists made magic with their Soot Sprite project, inspired by Miyazaki! They focused on simple shapes and textures to create these adorable, fuzzy characters.

The younger students especially had fun adding their own personalities to the sprites, and in true Truman fashion, the “67” meme made its appearance again. It’s always hilarious to see how internet culture sneaks into their creative choices.

You can find more information about the project on this link: Project

Huge shoutout to the 7th and 8th graders in Ms. Villa's art room! They absolutely crushed their Nicho Diorama project.

A Nicho is a little shadowbox altar, and these students used them to showcase their personal stories, favorite hobbies, and amazing creativity in 3D!

They learned about cultural art while making awesome mini-worlds. The final pieces are full of color, depth, and personality.

Our young scientists in Mrs. Perez-Estrada's class are mastering STEM concepts! They ran a hands-on experiment, using cups to model how the Earth's surfaces (like soil vs. water) heat up and cool down at different rates. This skill is key to understanding global weather and wind patterns!

Our amazing group of 3rd graders, including both bilingual and regular students, had an inspiring day at the Yale University Art Gallery!

Students explored the museum on a guided tour, discovering art in new ways by closely examining paintings and sculptures, focusing on colors, shapes, and form.

The best part? They became artists themselves! Through fun, hands-on activities, students created their own incredible art collages using felt , putting their artistic observations into practice. A fantastic day of creative learning!

Thanks to the Education Department at #yaleartgallery for organizing the trip for our students.

3rd grade students at Mrs Pasan's room aren't just memorizing facts—they're building a deep understanding of multiplication by creating Arrays Puzzles!
This activity requires them to connect different representations:
Visual Arrays (rows \times columns)
Repetitive Sums (equal groups/skip counting) and
Formal Equations
By successfully linking these pieces, they show they know exactly how multiplication can be represented.

Our Truman Tigers are becoming Dragon Masters in grades 2-5 by building their math fact fluency. When they collect four dragons during each week they get their name posted on our Dragon Master Bulletin Board. Don't forget to ask your student if they chose a dragon tattoo or a dragon figure. Keep collecting those dragons!!!

Our 8th graders at Truman aren't just reading about geometry—they're building it!

This week, students are mastering rigid transformations (translations, reflections, and rotations) through a hands-on design task. It's awesome to see them collaborate, problem-solve, and apply those abstract concepts to real-world designs. Great work, everyone!

Our students enjoyed the best kind of half-day today! To celebrate, our amazing Specials team organized a special "Tiger Day" event. Students spent their Specials time rotating through fun activities: playing high-energy games in the gym, getting creative with arts and crafts, and grabbing some treats at the snack station.

A huge thank you to our entire Specials team for making the half-day extra memorable for all our Truman students!

Our 4th graders at Ms Gordon's room are demonstrating some serious math strategies this week! They took on a tough challenge: setting an April visitor goal for the zoo that had to be 999 to 9,999 more than any two months combined from Jan-Mar.

This problem wasn't just about adding! The students had to:

  1. PLAN IT OUT 🗺️: They had to think strategically about which two months to add first to find the biggest total—the toughest number to beat!

  2. SHOW THEIR WORK ➕: Every calculation had to be clearly documented as proof.

  3. EXPLAIN THEIR THOUGHT PROCESS 🤔: They had to write out why they chose their final goal and how they know it beats the rule.

So proud of the deep thinking, planning, and focus on details from these hardworking students!
