Our 4th graders at Ms Gordon's room are demonstrating some serious math strategies this week! They took on a tough challenge: setting an April visitor goal for the zoo that had to be 999 to 9,999 more than any two months combined from Jan-Mar.

This problem wasn't just about adding! The students had to:

  1. PLAN IT OUT 🗺️: They had to think strategically about which two months to add first to find the biggest total—the toughest number to beat!

  2. SHOW THEIR WORK ➕: Every calculation had to be clearly documented as proof.

  3. EXPLAIN THEIR THOUGHT PROCESS 🤔: They had to write out why they chose their final goal and how they know it beats the rule.

So proud of the deep thinking, planning, and focus on details from these hardworking students!

Our 8th graders are working on two awesome projects in Ms. Nabakooza’s art room!

They've been decorating boxes that they'll use for drawing exercises later this October — setting the stage for some creative work ahead.

At the same time, they're also building group models of Frida Kahlo’s art studio — here’s a sneak peek of one in progress!

Don’t just teach about eyes—let students investigate them! This module from Smithsonian Science, How Can Animals Use Their Senses to Communicate, explores how vision works and even how fiddler crabs use their eyes to survive.

Our 4th graders in Ms. Irizarry’s class completed this activity, sparking curiosity and seeing science in a whole new light!

Our first grade students at Ms Rosario's room had an amazing time getting creative! They made colorful maracas inspired by the flags of different Hispanic countries, celebrating the vibrant cultures and traditions they represent.
But the fun didn’t stop there! They also explored Indigenous Spanish words by coloring the alphabet, learning new vocabulary while connecting with the rich history of Spanish-speaking communities.
It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity shine as they combined art, language, and culture in such a hands-on way. We’re so proud of their creativity and enthusiasm!
